No. 28 Vanderbilt Women’s Tennis defeated Missouri, 6-1, in its first home conference matchup Feb. 22, improving to 11-2 on the season. The team entered SEC play on a five-game winning streak and did not disappoint in a strong showing against the Tigers. 
The Commodores kicked things off by winning their seventh straight doubles point. The No. 10-ranked Vanderbilt pair of Valeria Ray and Bridget Stammel had a 6-4 victory over Zoe Lazar and Lara Quaglia before Erin Pearce and Mia Yamakita took down Missouri’s Andrea Artimedi and Gian Octa, 6-2. These two wins secured the doubles point for the ‘Dores, leaving the top doubles matchup unfinished, 5-3. 
“I thought we played a very good doubles point again, and that certainly sets the tone heading into the singles,” head coach Aleke Tsoubanos said. 
Singles play started with a dominant 6-0, 6-0 defeat of Lazar by Pearce and another convincing win for Vanderbilt with No. 15 Ray beating Ackman, 6-2, 6-0. Stammel acquired another win in straight sets for the Black and Gold, defeating Octa, 6-3, 6-2, and securing the team victory for Vanderbilt.  
No. 34 Celia-Belle Mohr won the first set of the top singles match against Roso in a tiebreaker, 7-6 (7-5), before a strong 6-3 win in the second set led her to take the match. In Vanderbilt’s only loss of the competition, Trinetra Vijayakumar played a tough first set, losing 6-7 (3-7) to Missouri’s Artimedi, but came back strong with a 6-0 win in the second set. However, Vijayakumar couldn’t hold on and lost the tiebreaker set 0-1 (10-12). Webster wrapped things up with a 6-2, 6-4 defeat of Quaglia. 
“It was a great team win for us to start off the SEC season today at home,” Tsoubanos said. “I commend Missouri. I thought they actually competed really well, even in spots where maybe the score did not indicate that. They are an improved team from a year ago, and I give them credit for keeping themselves in some matches and fighting until the end.” 
Vanderbilt Women’s Tennis will host Texas A&M Feb. 27 at 5 p.m. CST for alumni weekend as it continues SEC play.
