Vanderbilt women’s basketball will face Notre Dame in the Sweet 16 in Fort Worth, Texas on March 27 in the Fort Worth 1 Regional.
The No. 2 seed Commodores (29-4) defeated No. 7 lllinois (22-12) on March 23 at Memorial Gymnasium 75-57.
No. 6 seed Notre Dame (24-10) beat No. 3 Ohio State 83-73 to reach the Sweet 16.
The Vanderbilt vs Notre Dame game will tip off at 1:30 p.m. CT, followed by No. 1 UConn and No. 4 North Carolina.
Vanderbilt is making its first Sweet 16 appearance since 2009. There is the possibility of a Vanderbilt vs. UConn matchup in the Elite Eight. Commodores coach Shea Ralph played for and was an assistant with the Huskies before coming to Vanderbilt.
The Commodores will be facing Notre Dame guard Iyana Moore, who spent four years at Vanderbilt before going to the Fighting Irish as a grad transfer. Vanderbilt recruiting coordinator Koko Nelson played at Notre Dame from 2013 to 2018.
The matchup will pit two conference players of the year: Vanderbilt’s Mikayla Blakes, the SEC Player of the Year, and Notre Dame’s Hannah Hidalgo, the ACC Player of the Year.
