Vanderbilt women’s basketball is holding steady as a projected 2-seed in March Madness after a win over Kentucky.
In the NCAA tournament selection committee’s initial top 16 release on Feb. 14, the Commodores (25-3, 11-3 SEC) had grabbed the final 1-seed, but their loss to Georgia dropped them back onto the 2-seed line in the eyes of most evaluators.
Vanderbilt’s standing as a 2-seed is fairly steady given wins over LSU, Michigan and Texas. That seed would mean the Commodores could host March Madness games at Memorial Gymnasium for the first two rounds.
Here are the projections:
ESPN: No. 2 seed, facing 15-seed Navy
CBS Sports: No. 2 seed, facing 15-seed High Point
Vanderbilt is ranked No. 7 in the NET, No. 8 in Torvik and No. 5 in Wins Above Bubble. The Commodores have a 7-3 Quadrant 1 record with no losses outside of Quadrant 1. These metrics point to a 2-seed for Vanderbilt in March Madness.
The Commodores have head-to-head wins against fellow projected 2-seeds Michigan and LSU as well as projected 1-seed Texas.
