NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – The Vanderbilt women’s basketball duo of Mikayla Blakes and Aubrey Galvan earned SEC weekly honors in the same week for the fourth time this season, as Blakes was named SEC Player of the Week and Galvan was selected for SEC Co-Freshman of the Week.
Blakes averaged 34.5 points, 5.0 rebounds and 4.5 assists per game in a pair of wins over No. 24/23 Alabama and at Tennessee to pick up her sixth SEC Player of the Week selection of the season.
It is the second-straight week the sophomore has earned the award and the third time in the past four weeks she has been named SEC Player of the Week. This week’s selection also extends her Vanderbilt school record for most SEC Player of the Week selections in a season.
Galvan averaged 15.5 points, 7.0 assists, 5.0 rebounds and 2.0 steals in the final week of her first collegiate regular season to share SEC Freshman of the Week honors with Oklahoma’s Aalyah Chavez.
It is Galvan’s fifth overall SEC freshman weekly honor this season, which ties her with Khamil Pierre (2023-24) for the second-most SEC Freshman of the Week awards won by a Commodore in a season.
It is the fourth time this season that Blakes and Galvan have earned SEC weekly honors in the same week, as it previously happened on Jan. 6, Jan. 20 and Feb. 10.
