Vanderbilt University has released renderings for multiple projects related to the its $300 million Vandy United sports facilities update campaign.
The release of the images follows the university and Chancellor Daniel Diermeier having recently announced Anchored for Her, a $50 million endowment at Vanderbilt University to support women’s sports. Via the fund, the school is looking to raise money to help support coaches, staff and facility upgrades for various programs, while also bolstering athletic scholarships.
The renderings also have been released as Vandy United — which is part of the university’s overall Dare to Grow fundraising campaign and is being supported, in large part, by National Commodore Club members — recognizes its fifth anniversary this month.
The renderings show what is called the Football Experience Center, and a soccer and lacrosse complex. These will join Vandy United projects already underway — including enhancements to Hawkins Field (baseball) and the Lummis Family Tennis Center.
The future football facility will be a “cornerstone” of the next phase, supporting a Commodore program that is building on back-to-back bowl appearances, a return to the Associated Press top 10 for the first time since 1937 and the first 10-win season in more than 130 years.
The facility will incorporate the indoor practice field that is in Vandy United’s original blueprint, bolstering it with training, recovery, coaching and administrative functions. In addition, it will be the flagship structure of the Frist Athletics Village, a multipurpose hub for “education, experience and hospitality.”
The current effort also involves updating Jess Neely Drive to serve as a pedestrian corridor offering food vendors, retail kiosks, pop-up installations for fans to enjoy before and after games. The street previously had been open to vehicles.
The soccer and lacrosse facility is being called the Olympic Sports Performance complex.
Hawkins Field is slated for “new amenities and premium options,” according to the release. Work is underway.
Previous Vandy United updates included an overhaul of Vanderbilt Stadium (football) and a new facility housing coaches’ offices and practice courts for the Commodore women’s and men’s basketball programs.
“Our aspirations have never been higher, and our commitment to excellence has never been stronger,” Candice Storey Lee, Vanderbilt vice chancellor for athletics and university affairs and athletic director, said in the release.
“Commodore Nation has already seen what’s possible when we bring Vandy United’s vision to life. Now we take the next step — reimagining the football experience, investing in new homes for soccer and lacrosse, and building championship-caliber spaces across Vanderbilt Athletics. Together, we are creating a model for sustainable excellence that will lead the future of college sports.”
