Tennessee basketball starting shooting guard Bishop Boswell is not practicing Friday ahead of the Vols’ matchup against Vanderbilt as he battles illness. Boswell is at practice but is just sitting in the stands separated from his teammates.
Boswell has started 26 games for Tennessee this season and is averaging 6.7 points, 4.8 rebounds and 2.9 assists in 26.1 minutes per game this season. He missed three games earlier this season with a right foot injury but has otherwise remained healthy and available for Tennessee.
The SEC injury report comes out on Friday night and will give us a better idea about Boswell’s status for Saturday’s matchup against Vanderbilt.
Boswell’s status is all the more important because of the uncertainty of star Nate Ament. The freshman wing missed Tennessee’s win at South Carolina with an ankle injury and is also not practicing on Friday ahead of the Vanderbilt game.
Freshman Amari Evans started in place of the Ament at South Carolina. If neither Ament of Boswell play against Vanderbilt, one of Ethan Burg, Troy Henderson or Amaree Abram would slide in beside him.
Boswell was crucial in Tennessee’s 69-65 win at Vanderbilt two weeks ago, scoring back-to-back late game buckets to turn a three-point Volunteer deficit into a one-point lead.
With a win over Vanderbilt, Tennessee will earn the four-seed and the double-bye in next week’s SEC Tournament. A loss would have the Vols anywhere between a five and a seven-seed in next week’s tournament.
Tennessee is currently 4.5-point favorites over Vanderbilt according to the DKSportsbook. KenPom predicts Tennessee to earn a 76-72 victory over the Commodores. Tipoff between the Vols and Commodores is at 2 p.m. ET on Saturday afternoon. Matt Schumacker and Richard Hendrix are on the call for ESPN.
