GREENVILLE, SC – Vanderbilt women’s basketball coach Shea Ralph was ejected in the fourth quarter of the Commodores’ SEC Tournament quarterfinal matchup on March 6.
With No. 2 seed Vanderbilt down 22 points to No. 7 seed Ole Miss, Ralph took exception to a foul call on star guard Mikayla Blakes. Ralph walked on to the court, arguing the call with the official. It was Blakes’ fourth foul.
Blakes and an Ole Miss player dived for a loose ball, and the Ole Miss player ended up on top of Blakes, who was still whistled for the foul.
Ralph was nearly halfway across the court and appeared to be yelling: “How is that a (expletive) foul?”
After Ralph continued yelling, the official called her for technicals and ejected her from the game with 9:25 left in the fourth quarter.
The Commodores trailed 65-43 at Bon Secours Wellness when she was ejected. Ole Miss forward Cotie McMahon hit both free throws.
Vanderbilt had a terrible start to the game, scoring only six points in the first quarter. It trailed 49-17 at halftime, and Blakes had gone 0-for-10 in the first half, with one point off a free throw.
After Ralph’s ejection, Ole Miss went up by 28 points before Vanderbilt went on a 15-0 run to bring the game within 15 points for the first time since the beginning of the second quarter. The Rebels led by as many as 32 points earlier in the third quarter.
