As campus looks forward to the last day of classes next Wednesday, we look back on a Black and Gold Spring Game and a rainy Rites of Spring. We also look at the quieter parts of campus as the academic year begins to come to a close.  
The Vanderbilt Commodores played their annual Black and Gold Spring Game last Saturday. The game provided a promising look for new quarterback Jared Curtis, a frontrunner in the battle for a new quarterback to replace Diego Pavia. The offense ended up winning the game 41-28 with the defensive line showing a lack of pressure throughout the game. Curtis came out as leader in the battle for potential quarterback picks, throwing deeper throws to receivers in the game compared to his main competition, Blaze Berlowitz. The transfer class that head coach Clark Lea brought in during the offseason also showed promise in their respective roles, including Ball State transfer Walter Taylor, who is a former Vanderbilt Football player from the 2022 season.  
Rites of Spring took place April 18 on Alumni Lawn. The show’s performers included the winner and runner-up of the Battle of the Bands contest, Ravyn Lenae, Natasha Bedingfield and A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie. The show took place despite light rain and frigid temperatures, with a low of 43-degrees Fahrenheit that night; the rain was not enough to cancel the celebration like last year. There were a variety of food trucks present on the lawn, including Kona Ice, Red Frogs, Daddy Dogs and Buns on The Run. Overall, the night appeared to go on successfully without any major inclement weather alerts nor visible logistical issues with the artists performing. 
As the end of the semester nears, the hustle and bustle of student life can oftentimes overlook the smaller details. In this week’s edition, photographers captured blooming flowers, ongoing construction, students lounging outside and Alumni Lawn the morning after Rites of Spring.
