In what has become a theme of the 2025-26 season for the Kentucky Wildcats women’s basketball team, Sunday saw them fall to Vanderbilt by two points. They lost twice to the Commodores this season by a combined total of three points. It was their eighth loss of the year, and four of them have been by five or fewer points.
This one was especially tough. Kentucky led by two at halftime and by four going into the fourth quarter. They couldn’t close it out, though, and Vanderbilt completed a late comeback by taking the lead for good with seven seconds remaining.
The two teams were pretty even statistically. Their shooting percentages were almost identical, turnovers were close, and they had the same number of assists. Vanderbilt did out-rebound the Cats 38-33.
Clara Strack led the way for the Wildcats with 17 points and 4 blocks. Amelia Hassett made five three pointers and scored 15 points. Asia Boone added 13 points of her own, and all five starters had double-figures.
Kentucky falls to 20-8 on the season, and 7-7 in SEC play. They need to get win to keep a top four NCAA Tournament seed, and to be able to play host during March Madness. Next up is the Auburn Tigers before their regular season finale against South Carolina.
