Vanderbilt basketball coach Mark Byington on Feb. 25 would not directly answer a question about whether guard Frankie Collins was still on the team.
“We’re figuring it out,” Byington said in the news conference after No. 21 Vanderbilt defeated Georgia 88-80. “I’ll update you guys when we have a definite answer. But, he’s not going to, back or not back is not going to damper what we’re doing tonight . . . There’s no updates now.”
Collins has not played since a Dec. 17 win over Memphis. He was injured in that game, but was originally slated to return partway through SEC play.
On Feb. 14, Byington said that Collins’ status was “uncertain.” Collins is still listed on the team’s online roster.
Collins, a graduate transfer from TCU, was not part of the team’s senior night ceremony at Memorial Gymnasium before playing Georgia (19-9, 7-8 SEC).
Vanderbilt (22-6, 9-6) got 7.8 points and 4.2 rebounds per game from Collins before his injury.
