Nebraska men’s basketball has learned the tip time for its next NCAA Tournament game against Vanderbilt. The Huskers and Commodores will tip off in the second round on Saturday at 7:45 p.m. CT on TNT.
Fourth-seeded Nebraska defeated 13th-seeded Troy 76-47 on Thursday. That was the first NCAA Tournament win in Husker hoops history. The program entered Thursday’s game 0-8 all time in tournament play.
The Huskers were led by Pryce Sandfort, who scored 23 points. The former Iowa Hawkeye shot 7-of-13 from the floor, including 7-of-12 from the 3-point line. Rienk Mast contributed 13 points and 6 rebounds in the win.
As a team, the Huskers shot 25 of 65 from the field, 14 of 39 from the 3-point line and 6 of 6 from the free-throw line. Troy shot 13 of 46 from the floor, 8 of 28 from beyond the arc and 13 of 14 from the charity stripe.
No. 5 Vanderbilt held off No. 12 McNeese 78-68. The victory was the first win in the NCAA Tournament for the Commodores since 2012.
Tyler Tanner led Vanderbilt with 26 points, seven rebounds and five assists. Duke Miles added 13 points and three assists.
Vanderbilt shot 26 of 51 from the field, 9 of 24 from the 3-point line and 17 of 20 from the free-throw line. McNeese shot 25 of 69 from the floor, 9 of 26 from beyond the arc and 9 of 9 from the line.
Saturday’s game will be the eighth all time between the Huskers and Commodores. Vanderbilt holds the series edge 5-2.
