Georgia women’s basketball returned to the AP Poll rankings at No. 24 after a nail-biting upset against then-No. 5 Vanderbilt on Sunday, its first top-five win in four years.
This is not the first time the Bulldogs have notched their way into the AP rankings this season, as they held the No. 23 spot in late January after beating then-No.11 Kentucky.
Despite dropping out for a few weeks, it is the first season since 2021-22 that Georgia has been ranked in more than one weekly poll in the same season.
The Bulldogs have three wins against top-20 teams this season, the most in a regular season for the program since 2010-11, and became the quickest Georgia team to reach 20 wins in eight years.
Georgia has had a rollercoaster of a season from starting out with 12-straight wins to bouncing in and out of the AP rankings in conference play. Now, the Bulldogs stand at 20-6 for the season and 6-6 in SEC play, which is arguably one of the strongest conferences right now in women’s basketball.
Their success is a team effort with four players averaging points in the double-digits. However, sophomore guard Dani Carnegie has been an outstanding factor for most of the season. She averages 18.5 points in the season, but has taken over averaging 20.3 points in SEC play.
Whether Georgia can hold onto its ranking this time will be put to the test when it faces No. 11 Oklahoma on Thursday, Feb. 19 at 6:30 p.m. at Stegeman Coliseum.
