Former Tennessee football offensive lineman under Josh Heupel, Jackson Lampley, is returning to the Volunteer State as he begins his coaching career. After spending last season on the LSU coaching staff, he has announced that he has taken a role as an assistant offensive line coach at Vanderbilt. This was first reported by John Brice.
This means that Lampley will be coaching against his former team next season. The Vols will travel to Nashville to play the Commodores on Nov. 28, 2026, to round out the season. There is no kickoff time or TV designation announced at this point.
If Lampley stays on the staff next season, as well, he’d return to Neyland Stadium. Tennessee has a yearly rivalry with Vanderbilt, and the in-state SEC rival will be making its way back to Knoxville in 2027.
Most recently, VU defeated the Vols in Neyland Stadium this past season with Diego Pavia at quarterback.

Lampley spent his entire six-year career playing for Tennessee. He joined the Vols in 2019 when Jeremy Pruitt was still the coach, but redshirted after playing in just two games. He joined the program as a top-10 recruit from the state out of  Montgomery Bell Academy in Nashville.
After the 2020 season, in which he saw no action, he stuck through the coaching change to Heupel. In 2021, he played in 12 games, primarily on special teams. 2022 saw him earn 83 offensive snaps, though he still had his main duties as a specialist.
In 2023, he made the first start of his career. Lampley started the final two games of the year and appeared in all 13. He only allowed one sack through 221 snaps.
In 2024, his final season, Lampley played in all 13 games and started one. That team made the College Football Playoffs, where he played six snaps in the road loss to Ohio State. On the year, he earned a PFF grade of 64.2 in 231 snaps.
