Auburn football dropped its first game of the season on Saturday to the Florida Gators and looks to bounce back this Saturday against another quality SEC opponent in the Vanderbilt Commodores.
Auburn is now 2-1 on the season following its 44-39 loss to Florida in Week 3, and desperately needs a win before heading to Knoxville next week to battle the Volunteers. Vanderbilt is 3-0 after taking down NC State in thrilling fashion last Saturday in Nashville, and has confidence heading into its SEC opener against the Auburn Tigers.
Early evaluations show that scoring will be at a premium on Saturday. The Tigers edge the Commodores in points per game, 33.0-32.6, ranking No. 12 and No. 13 respectively among their SEC peers. The two teams are also side-by-side in points allowed, with Vanderbilt giving up 22 points per game compared to Auburn’s 22.67, ranking No. 12 and No. 13 in the SEC. Auburn posts more passing and rushing yards than the Commodores, but Vanderbilt has excelled at sacking the quarterback, which could pose a problem for Auburn considering the Tigers have allowed more sacks than any other SEC squad coming into the week.
