Vanderbilt Football (3-0) was ranked at No. 20 in the AP Top 25 Poll and No. 23 in the USA Today Coaches Poll this afternoon. This is the second-straight year that the ‘Dores have cracked the Top 25 in any poll, and the earliest in the year they have ever received an AP ranking. Vanderbilt was ranked in the AP Poll on two separate occasions in the 2024 polls, with its first in over a decade coming on Oct. 20, while the other came on Nov. 4. Before that, however, Vanderbilt was last ranked in in the AP Poll in 2014 following its bowl game victory over Houston.
This news comes less than 24 hours after Vanderbilt Football nabbed its third-straight win at South Carolina on Saturday night. The 31-7 victory over the Gamecocks marked the Commodores’ first SEC opener win since 2011. The 24-point margin of victory marked the third straight game in which Vanderbilt bested its opponents by more than 20 points, a feat last accomplished by Vanderbilt in 1930.
The Commodores earned one vote in last week’s AP poll after picking up a dominating 44-20 win on the road over Virginia Tech. This week, though, the Commodores cracked through and are officially ranked in the top 25.
Vanderbilt will look to build off its momentum when it welcomes Georgia State into FirstBank Stadium at 6:30 p.m. CDT on Saturday, Sept. 20.
