Duke Miles will have knee cleanup surgery Jan. 28, Vanderbilt basketball coach Mark Byington said after a win over Kentucky at Memorial Gymnasium on Jan. 27.
Miles, who is the Commodores’ second-leading scorer with 16.6 points per game this season, has been playing through a knee injury and that was what kept him out of the contest against the Wildcats.
Jalen Washington started in Miles’ place.
There is not a clear timetable for return at the moment. Byington said that Miles “won’t be out long.”
“He was a great leader today, and he’s been playing through some pain, I think everybody knows,” Byington said. “And the way he’s going to attack things, he won’t be out long. He’s going to get surgery tomorrow morning and then he’s going to attack rehab.”
No. 15 Vanderbilt (18-3, 5-3 SEC) won the game, 80-55, to improve to 18-3 on the season. The Commodores’ next game is scheduled at Ole Miss on Jan. 31.
