Vanderbilt women’s basketball notched its biggest win of the season, defeating No. 4 Texas, 86-70, at Memorial Gymnasium on Feb. 12
No. 5 Vanderbilt (24-2, 10-2 SEC) got off to an early lead, with a 12-point advantage by the end of the first quarter and a 17-point lead by halftime.
The Longhorns (23-3, 8-3) attempted a comeback in the fourth quarter but ultimately the Commodores’ lead was too large.
Mikayla Blakes and Aubrey Galvan once again starred for the Commodores as Blakes made her case to be SEC Player of the Year over one of her main competitors, Texas’ Madison Booker. Booker had 20 points on 9-for-20 shooting with eight rebounds.
Blakes had her fourth straight 30-point game, finishing with 34, and put up three rebounds and three assists while Galvan put up 18 points, eight rebounds and five assists.
Texas transfer Ndjakalenga Mwenantanda (11 points, six rebounds) and Sacha Washington (10 points, nine rebounds) also scored double-digits.
