Auburn basketball’s third-straight game against a Quad 1 opponent is set for Tuesday evening when the Tigers host No. 20 Vanderbilt at Neville Arena. Will Auburn snap its two-game losing streak? Or will the Commodores extend the Tigers’ recent woes?
KenPom predicts a win for Auburn, but one that will be much closer than fans would like to experience. KenPom gives Auburn a slight 51% chance to beat Vanderbilt on Tuesday, with an implied score of 82-81.
Auburn basketball has faltered in its last two games against Quad 1 teams, losing to Tennessee and Alabama. The Commodores enter the game ranked No. 14 in both the NET and KenPom, and are in the top 25 in both offensive and defensive efficiency. Auburn ranks No. 30 in the KenPom and will look to challenge Vanderbilt on offense as both teams rank in the top 15 nationally in offensive efficiency.
Auburn, on average, holds the basketball for two seconds longer than Vanderbilt, which could work in its favor as long as its defense gives Vanderbilt fits all game long. Vanderbilt is slightly better than Auburn at three-point and free-throw shooting, but Auburn holds an edge in rebounding, which could create more opportunities to score points in key moments. Both teams also have positive turnover margins, so mistakes could be costly for both teams.
