Vanderbilt forward Tyler Nickel was taken with the 47th overall pick by the New York Knicks in the second round of the 2026 NBA Draft. He becomes the first Commodore to be drafted into the association since Saben Lee in 2020.
Nickel played four seasons of college basketball — one at North Carolina, one at Virginia Tech and the last two on West End. The Virginian was a four-star recruit out of high school and a meaningful rotation player in each of his last three collegiate years.
He averaged 12 points per game on over 40% 3-point shooting while donning the black and gold, helping to lead the Commodores to back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances for the first time in nine years. His clutch shooting and undeniable confidence on the court made him a fan favorite in Memorial Gymnasium.
Now, he will be a Knick and will hope to use his quick release and on-court gravity to play himself into the rotation as a rookie. With New York fresh off a championship, Nickel will have an opportunity to bring his elite shooting to the biggest basketball stage in the world.
