Vanderbilt basketball is projected to be a No. 5 seed in March Madness after two straight losses to Missouri and Tennessee.
The Commodores (21-6, 8-6 SEC) were listed as a 4-seed in the NCAA tournament selection committee’s release of the top 16 seeds on Feb. 21, however, that was before the loss to Tennessee. The Vols are one of a handful of other SEC teams vying for spots on similar seed lines to Vanderbilt.
Vanderbilt’s best argument for a high seed is its No. 13 ranking in KenPom and Torvik, which would have it as a high 4-seed. However, its resume metrics have slipped to No. 17 in the NET and No. 21 in Wins Above Bubble, which would suggest a No. 5 or 6 seed.
A No. 5 seed could land Vanderbilt with an interesting matchup against projected 12-seed Belmont, a pairing predicted by ESPN’s Joe Lunardi.
Here are the latest projections.
As of Feb. 24
ESPN: No. 5 seed, facing No. 12 seed Belmont in Tampa
CBS Sports: No. 5 seed, facing 12-seed Yale
USA TODAY: No. 5 seed, facing 12-seed Yale in Philadelphia
The Athletic: No. 5 seed, facing 12-seed Yale in Philadelphia
