KNOXVILLE ― Vanderbilt women’s basketball won at Tennessee for only the second time ever with an 87-77 victory at Thompson-Boling Arena on March 1.
No. 5 Vanderbilt (27-3, 13-3 SEC) ended the third quarter on an 8-0 run to gain some separation for the first time, then went on a 10-0 run midway through the fourth to take command of the game. Tennessee (16-12, 8-8) lost its last six games to end the season.
Mikayla Blakes put up her eighth 30-point game in her last nine contests, finishing with 34 points and six rebounds. Aubrey Galvan had 24 points and Sacha Washington added 16 points and eight rebounds.
The Commodores will be the No. 2 seed in the SEC tournament in Greenville, South Carolina, and will begin play in the quarterfinals on March 6.
