Vanderbilt sweeps doubles play, advances two in singles draw
COLLEGE GROVE, Tenn. — Vanderbilt men’s tennis used back-to-back doubles wins to set the tone early during Friday’s main draw opener at the ITA Ohio Valley Regional Championships from Farm & Forge Tennis Club in College Grove, Tennessee.
Senior Danil Panarin and freshman Leonardo Ljubicic took the court together for the first time this season, cruising to an 8-1 victory over Indiana’s Benjamin Pomeranets and Karan Raghavendra. Senior Hugo Coquelin and sophomore Donghyun Hwang sealed a flawless doubles opener after downing Nolan Hayward and Zackary Kimelman of Ball State 8-3.
Panarin also opened singles play for the Dores, taking on Ryan Parkins from Bellarmine. He secured his first singles win since Sept. 18, sinking his Knight counterpart 6-4, 6-3. After climbing his way into the main draw, freshman Roshan Santhosh stayed alive in a back-and-forth battle with Indiana’s Braeden Gelletich. Santhosh clinched his third win in two days, 6-3, 3-6, 6-4, to move into the singles round of 32.
Doubles action will again start off the day tomorrow, with singles contests set to follow. Matches will be streamed online with live stats overlayed during play.
