Vanderbilt football and Virginia have agreed to a two-game, home-and-home series beginning in 2028, the programs announced on June 19.
The Commodores will host the Cavaliers on Sept. 16, 2028 at FirstBank Stadium, according to Virginia’s news release, with the return game in Charlottesville set for 2031.
The two programs had excellent seasons in 2025, each recording 10-win regular seasons.
Virginia and Vanderbilt have not played each other since 1975. The Commodores lead the all-time series, 12-7-2. Vanderbilt’s release notes the two programs first played in 1895, a neutral-site game in Atlanta. The first game played in Nashville was in 1897. The teams did not play in Charlottesville until 1913.
Vanderbilt had originally scheduled a game at NC State on the same date in 2028, as a part of the series that has the Wolfpack coming to Nashville this season on Sept. 19.
