Vanderbilt football is set to lose another member of its staff as defensive line coach and co-defensive coordinator Larry Black is headed to Michigan, per a report from ESPN’s Pete Thamel.
Black had been on staff since 2022 and was one of the Commodores‘ top recruiters as well as coaching players like Khordae Sydnor and Glenn Seabrooks.
Black played football at Indiana and his brother played at Michigan.
The Commodores are set to hire Western Michigan co-defensive coordinator and defensive line coach Seth Payne, who was an analyst on Vanderbilt’s staff in 2024, according to Matt Zenitz of 247Sports.
Other members of the Vanderbilt football staff who have left this offseason include quarterbacks coach Garrett Altman, now the offensive coordinator at Arkansas State, and stars coach Jimmy Thompson, who went to the Los Angeles Chargers.
