We’ve got some intra-SEC movement in the transfer portal this week, with a former Auburn player heading to Mark Byington’s Vanderbilt program. Former Tigers forward Sebastian Williams-Adams, a small forward from Houston, TX, entered the transfer portal on Monday. On Tuesday afternoon, he announced his commitment to Vanderbilt.
Williams-Adams is the fourth portal pickup for Byington’s program so far. He joins four-star PF Berke Buyuktuncel (Nebraska), four-star SG Ace Glass (Washington State), and three-star PF Bangot Dak (Colorado).
The 6-foot-8 rising sophomore played in both of Auburn’s games against Tennessee last season. During the first matchup in Knoxville, Williams-Adams recorded nine points on 3-of-5 shooting, two rebounds, and one assist. He then put up seven points and seven rebounds in the Tigers’ SEC Tournament loss to the Volunteers in March. Williams-Adams played 27 minutes in the first meeting and 31 minutes in the second meeting.
Williams-Adams essentially played right up to his season average, or slightly above it, in the two games against Tennessee. On the season as a whole, he averaged 7.0 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 1.5 assists for Steven Pearl’s squad.
Tennessee went 1-2 against its rival in Nashville last season, trading regular-season wins in each other’s buildings before a Vanderbilt win in the SEC Tournament quarterfinals.
Tennessee has been one of the more active teams in the portal so far, landing five transfer commitments to go along with its four incoming high school prospects. All five of the Vols’ incoming transfers are ranked as four-star prospects, including VCU guard Terrence Hill Jr., Notre Dame guard Jalen Haralson, Cal guard Dai Dai Ames, Loyola (Chicago) forward Miles Rubin, and Belmont guard Tyler Lundblade.
247Sports’ transfer portal team rankings have Tennessee with the fourth-best class in the nation. Vanderbilt, meanwhile, is sitting at 13th in the nation.
