Jebitok earns top-10 finish in second collegiate event
CHICAGO — Freshman Maggie Jebitok and junior Lily Kriegel each posted top-15 finishes to lead Vanderbilt to a fourth-place team finish, while the Commodore men placed 16th Friday morning at the Sean Earl Lakefront Invitational.
Jebitok paced the Vanderbilt women with a sixth-place finish in the 6K championship race, crossing in 19:36.20. Kriegel followed in 14th place with a time of 19:46.20 as both runners earned top 15 finishes in a competitive field.
The Commodores placed four runners inside the top 50, with Claire Petersen taking 31st in 20:06.15 and freshman Claire Guiberson finishing 41st in 20:13.52. Hannah Huyler rounded out Vanderbilt's scoring five in 60th place with a time of 20:25.77.
Betsy Jepkemei added a 66th-place finish in 20:30.10, while Myrto Valacha placed 80th in 20:41.49 and Ella Mogannam was 87th in 20:46.69. Carolina Areheart completed the Commodore lineup in 134th place with a time of 21:51.30.
On the men's side, Michael Skora led Vanderbilt with a 79th-place finish in the 8K championship race, clocking 23:48.82. Luke Churchwell was close behind in 90th place at 23:54.04.
Sam Darmanie finished 116th in 24:26.74, followed by Finn Richards in 122nd at 24:36.44 and freshman Mark Meister in 128th at 24:49.13 to round out the Commodores' scoring five.
Jackson Scruggs placed 141st with a time of 24:59.33, while Brody Chapman finished 145th in 25:17.88 and Tommy O'Brien took 147th in 25:24.14. Mitchel Drees completed Vanderbilt's men's contingent in 153rd place with a time of 26:31.91.
The Vanderbilt women finished fourth in the team standings, while the Commodore men placed 16th at the annual meet along Chicago's lakefront.
