Vanderbilt women’s basketball is set to start its quest for its first SEC Tournament championship in 17 years.
The fifth-ranked Commodores (27-3, 10-2 SEC), the No. 2 seed in the tournament, face 24th-ranked and No. 7 seed Ole Miss (22-10, 8-8) in the quarterfinals at 5 p.m. on March 6. They’ll have a chance to avenge an 83-75 defeat to the Rebels on Jan. 30, the only time the two teams played during the regular season.
While Vanderbilt had a double bye, Ole Miss beat Auburn 73-57 on March 4 to advance to the quarterfinals.
SEC Player of the Year Mikayla Blakes scored 34 points to lead the Commodores to an 87-77 win at Tennessee in their regular-season finale. Aubrey Galvan, the conference Freshman of the Year, added 24 points.
