LESLIE COUNTY, Ky. (WYMT) -Tommy Smith, a 4-year-old single ventricle heart patient at Kentucky Children’s Hospital, was named Kid of the Game during the University of Kentucky Men’s Basketball matchup against Vanderbilt.
Tommy, who is from Leslie County and was born with only half a functioning heart, got to meet the team and watch them practice ahead of the game.
Tommy led the Wildcats out before the game and was recognized on the jumbotron following the national anthem. He also got to dribble on the court.
Tommy’s mother said he met the basketball players, including Trent Noah, Coach Pope and Gov. Andy Beshear.
When asked about his favorite part of the experience, Tommy pointed to UK mascot Scratch.
“Did you loved meeting Scratch? Yes, He is so silly. He didn’t get off the floor. He laid on the floor. He is so crazy. Scratch is so funny,” Tommy said.
