Auburn Tigers basketball fell short of taking down the Mississippi State Bulldogs on Wednesday, Feb. 18. The Tigers struggled to contain Mississippi State’s Josh Hubbard, who defeated 91-85.
After trailing by 15, the Tigers managed to put themselves in a position to come home with a victory by leading the Bulldogs by seven in the last four minutes of play. Auburn could not stop anything that Hubbard did; he finished with a career-high 46 points.
The defense of the Tigers continues to show a lack of chemistry and ability to shut down opposing guard play. Auburn has yet to put together a win in the month of February. This is their fifth straight loss since taking down Texas at home, 88-82.

After climbing up to No. 26 in January, Auburn ranks No. 34 in KenPom’s overall team rating statistics. The Tigers just have been falling in the rankings the past couple weeks.
The return of Keyshawn Hall saw him drop 29 points on 8-of-17 shooting. The Tigers come in at No. 8 with a offensive efficiency rating score of 126.1, according to KenPom.
Defensively the Tigers have struggled shutting down guard play, which was very apparent in the loss to Mississippi State allowing Hubbard to score 46 points. Auburn ranks No. 109 with a defensive efficiency rating of 105.7.
Auburn is averaging 67 possession per game with an average time of offensive possession coming in at 17.3 seconds. They rank No. 200 in KenPom’s adjusted tempo.
Another week for the Tigers where their strength of schedule comes in at No. 1 in KenPom overall and No. 24 in non-conference.
