Shorthorns
Wow-ee, another big conference game come and gone and we end up on the winning side once again. This one wasn’t even particularly close. We took the lead a few minutes in and the Sooner never came within 14 points of us after a minute into the second. Mikayla Blakes and Aubrey Galvan put up 34 and 30, respectively, while likely SEC Freshman of the Year Aaliyah Chavez finished with just 14. We have staked out our spot as the no. 5 team in the country quite well, proving we can beat most any competitor save for the few truly elite teams. There’s just something special about those top 4 teams in college basketball though, those towering 1-seeds, and today we get one last opportunity to prove we belong in that group.
Texas is no. 4 with 8 Quad 1 wins, the second most in the country behind UCLA, who they’ve beaten. All-American SEC Player of the Year Madison Booker leads the team with 19 points a game. The Longhorns do much more of their work inside the arc: we have 5 players with over 50 3-point attempts per game compared to Texas’ 2 and more than double their 311 total attempts. Expect to see Sacha have to get to work on defense early on defense to limit scoring while the rest of the team focuses on finding ways to score against the best scoring defense in the conference.
