Quarterback named semifinalist for two additional year-end awards Wednesday
NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Vanderbilt football’s Diego Pavia is a candidate for another two national honors with announcements Wednesday that the Commodore quarterback is a semifinalist for both the Walter Camp Player of the Year and Davey O’Brien National Quarterback Awards.
Pavia was named a semifinalist for the Maxwell Award on Tuesday after previously being selected as one of the Top 10 quarterbacks for the 2025 Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award®.
For the first time, the Walter Camp All-America Fan Vote and Player Impact Rankings is available for fans, families, and alumni to support their favorite college football players and have access to proprietary data sourced player impact rankings at www.votegridiron1880.com.
Fan voting on social media (Facebook, Instagram and Twitter) for the Davey O’Brien Award will earn players bonus selection committee votes. To vote, fans must like the official graphic from the @daveyobrien social media account that highlights their favorite quarterback. The second round will close Nov. 21 at 11:59 p.m.
Three finalists for both honors will be announced later this month, with the winners revealed during the ESPN College Football Awards Show on Dec. 12.
This fall, Pavia has become the first player in program history with multiple seasons recording more than 3,000 yards of total offense. The Albuquerque, New Mexico, resident has thrown for 2,440 yards and 21 scores—connecting on 191-of-273 attempts—and has also added 613 yards and seven touchdowns on the ground. A two-time SEC Player of the Week selection, he has posted career-high passing totals in each of the Commodores’ last two contests against No. 20/19 Texas and Auburn highlighted by becoming the first individual in Vandy’s record book to finish with 300-plus passing yards and 100-plus rushing yards in leading the Dores to a win over the Tigers.
The Heisman Trophy candidate leads the SEC and is among the top 10 nationally in pass efficiency rating (166.8), completion percentage (70.0%) and points responsible for (170), and he also tops the league in touchdown throws. Pavia is third in the conference in both passing yards and total offense per game, and is one of two quarterbacks to also stand among the top 10 in rushing yards as well.
His efforts have helped Vanderbilt—now 8-2 overall, 4-2 in the SEC—to its highest Associated Press ranking since 1937, its first appearance in the AP top 10 since the 1947 campaign and a school-record eight weeks in the organization’s top 25 poll.
Pavia and the No. 13/14 Commodores will celebrate Senior Day on Nov. 22 when Kentucky visits FirstBank Stadium at 2:30 p.m.
