College basketball Top 25 after the NBA Draft deadline chaos – Busting Brackets

The NBA Draft withdrawal deadline finally gave college basketball fans a much clearer picture of what next season could look like, and now the sport feels completely loaded at the top. Some teams got massive stars back, others lost key pieces, and a few programs quietly built rosters that look scary heading into the summer.
Illinois suddenly looks like the most complete team in the country, Florida looks loaded in the frontcourt, and Kentucky suddenly has way more questions than answers. With most of the major NBA decisions finished, here is the new Top 25 heading into the next phase of the offseason.
This feels low for Kentucky, but there are real concerns. Mark Pope still has talent, but the roster feels incomplete and heavily dependent on chemistry coming together fast. There is upside here, but there are also enough questions to keep the Wildcats near the bottom of the rankings for now.
Ohio State still feels a little unpredictable, but the talent level is finally starting to look serious again. The Buckeyes have enough scoring and athleticism to hang around the Top 25 if the guard play becomes more consistent.
Losing AJ Dybantsa changes everything, but BYU still feels dangerous offensively and talented enough to stay nationally relevant. The Cougars are no longer sneaking up on anybody after the last few seasons.
Miami pushed all-in this offseason, and now the pressure is real. The Hurricanes have enough talent to become one of the ACC’s highest-scoring teams if everything clicks quickly.
Tyler Tanner returning completely changed Vanderbilt’s ceiling. The Commodores suddenly look like a real SEC threat with one of the best guards in the country leading a roster that quietly added a lot of depth.
Purdue may not have the superstar power of previous seasons, but the Boilermakers still look experienced, disciplined, and extremely tough to beat at home.
The Michael Malone era is going to be one of the biggest storylines in college basketball. Losing Henri Veesaar hurts badly, but the Tar Heels still have enough talent to rise fast if the chemistry comes together.
Nate Oats is still going to play one of the fastest and most aggressive styles in the country. Alabama’s ceiling depends on whether the defense can hold up against elite teams in March.
Kansas lost a lot of talent, but the arrival of Tyrann Stokes gives Bill Self another potential superstar to build around immediately. The Jayhawks still feel dangerous because of the overall upside and the belief that Kansas usually looks much better by January than it does in the preseason.
Texas quietly rebuilt itself into another tough, physical team. The Longhorns may not get huge preseason hype, but they look balanced enough to stay in the national conversation all year.
Losing Meleek Thomas hurts a lot, but Arkansas still has elite athletes all over the roster. John Calipari’s team feels volatile, but the ceiling remains high because of the incoming talent.
Louisville looks loaded. The Cardinals finally feel like a team capable of seriously competing near the top of the ACC again instead of simply fighting for tournament positioning.
Virginia is interesting again because the offense finally looks capable of helping the defense. If the Cavaliers can score more consistently, they could become a nightmare matchup in March.
Rick Pitino landing Tounde Yessoufou was one of the biggest wins of the offseason. St. John’s suddenly has athleticism, toughness, scoring, and real Final Four upside.
Tennessee is still going to defend like crazy and make every game uncomfortable. If the offense becomes even slightly more reliable, the Volunteers could climb much higher.
Arizona still looks balanced and dangerous, but losing Koa Peat hurts more than people want to admit. The Wildcats still have enough talent and experience to stay near the top of the Big 12, but the ceiling feels slightly lower now.
Iowa State remains one of the toughest teams in the country physically. The Cyclones defend hard, rebound hard, and never make games easy for anybody. There is also still major attention on Milan Momcilovic, whose final decision could completely change the outlook of a contender somewhere nationally.
Gonzaga may not be getting huge national hype right now, but the Bulldogs still look like one of the cleanest offensive teams in college basketball entering the season.
Houston is still going to defend at an elite level and completely wear teams down over 40 minutes. The Cougars always feel built for deep tournament runs because of how hard they play.
Jeremy Fears Jr. returning was enormous for Michigan State. Tom Izzo has another veteran group that feels connected, tough, and built perfectly for Big Ten basketball.
Michigan losing key pieces hurts, but Dusty May still has the defending national champions looking like one of the most complete teams in the country. The Wolverines still have size, toughness, experience, and the kind of winning confidence that usually carries over after a title run.
Dan Hurley and UConn still feel like one of the safest bets in college basketball after making their third trip to the national title game in the last four seasons. The Huskies may not have the overwhelming dominance of previous years, but they still look tough, deep, and dangerous.
Jon Scheyer once again has one of the most talented rosters in the country, and Duke still feels built for a national title run despite a brutal ACC schedule. The Blue Devils have elite athleticism, scoring, and star power all over the floor.
Florida’s frontcourt looks terrifying after bringing back Alex Condon, Thomas Haugh, and Reuben Chinyelu. The Gators may have the best combination of size and experience in the country.
Illinois looks like the most complete team in college basketball right now. Andrej Stojakovic returning completely changed the national picture, and the Illini suddenly have star power, experience, scoring, and toughness all over the roster. Brad Underwood’s team feels built for a Final Four run, and there is a real argument that no team helped itself more during the NBA Draft process than Illinois.
The biggest thing this offseason proved is that college basketball feels deeper and more unpredictable than it has in years. Illinois may deserve the No. 1 spot right now, but there are real title contenders all over the country.
Duke still has elite talent, Florida looks terrifying inside, UConn refuses to go away, and programs like Vanderbilt, Louisville, and St. John’s suddenly feel capable of making huge jumps. The transfer portal may still create a few surprises, but after the NBA Draft deadline, the race to Detroit finally feels real.
