Vanderbilt lands a major commitment from elite 2027 CB Matt Williams, who chose the Commodores over Indiana and other Power Five programs.
The Vanderbilt football program has achieved a significant recruiting victory by securing elite 2027 cornerback Matt Williams, who had been a target for the Indiana Hoosiers.
According to a report by Riley Alberts on X for 247Sports, Williams has officially committed to the Commodores.
This is a major win for head coach Clark Lea, as the standout prospect from Maury High School in Virginia chose Vanderbilt over several other prominent programs, including Indiana, Maryland, and Duke.

Successfully recruiting a high-level defensive back against Big Ten competition signals a strong upward trend for the program's defensive recruiting efforts and overall secondary depth.
This commitment is part of a defensive overhaul that has been underway since the beginning of the year. In January, Vanderbilt made headlines in the transfer portal by securing former Clemson safety Ricardo Jones.
Jones, who reportedly had a season with six interceptions while at Clemson, was considered a marquee addition to the secondary.
As reported by Hayes Fawcett of On3, Jones possesses an elite physical profile, standing over 6-foot-2, and has the potential to be a multi-year starter at the Power Five level.
His ability to play in complex coverages and provide strong run support has made him a cornerstone of the current roster.
Additionally, the team bolstered its pass rush in January with the addition of Edwin Kolenge. The former Boston College edge defender brought valuable ACC starting experience to Nashville, having appeared in all 12 games for the Eagles in 2025.
With a career total of 50 tackles and three sacks, Kolenge was the sixteenth transfer to join Coach Lea's staff during a busy winter window.
Combining these experienced veteran transfers with high-potential recruits like Williams, Vanderbilt is systematically building a defense capable of competing at the highest level as they look to the future.
