When Tennessee basketball meets Vanderbilt in Nashville this season, it’ll be a sell-out crowd in Memorial Gymnasium, the school announced on Friday. This is just the second time this season the Commodores have sold out the arena, with a capacity crowd piling in to see Florida beat VU in January.
Vanderbilt’s home court holds a capacity of 14,326. Last season, the Commodores also sold out the arena, with 14,316 in attendance to see VU down the No. 6 Vols by one point.
This year’s meeting between the in-state rivals is scheduled for Feb. 21 at 2 or 2:30 p.m. ET. It will air on either ESPN or ESPN2, with those designations yet to be announced.
This means that there will be a handful of more games on both sides before this year’s edition of the rivalry. Tennessee plays at Kentucky this Saturday, before playing at Mississippi State, vs. LSU and vs. Oklahoma. Vanderbilt has games vs. Oklahoma, at Auburn, vs. Texas A&M and at Missouri before the matchup.
This season, Tennessee currently sits at 16-6 (6-3 SEC). However, recent games have seen the emergence of freshman forward Nate Ament as one of the most consistent scorers in the country. Adding that gear could go a long way as the season winds down.
Vanderbilt is off to one of its greatest starts in program history. The Commodores sit at 19-3 (6-3 SEC).
Overall, Tennessee leads the series on the men’s hardwood 132-77. On the road, the Vols trail the set 45-55, though. This year’s game will see a former Commodore suiting up in orange, as well. After one year at Vanderbilt, forward Jaylen Carey transferred to UT, where he plays a significant role off the bench this year.
