Vandy quarterback is semifinalist for Maxwell Award to go along with one more weekly honor
NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Vanderbilt’s Diego Pavia has been named a semifinalist for the Maxwell Player of the Year Award and has once again been selected the Walter Camp National FBS Player of the Week it was announced on Tuesday.
It’s the third national end-of-season award that he is in contention for having already been named to the Davey O’Brien QB Class of 2025 and one of the Top 10 quarterbacks for the 2025 Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award®.
The graduate student from Albuquerque, New Mexico, has completed 191-of-273 pass attempts for 2,440 yards and 21 touchdowns while also running for a team-high 613 yards and seven scores in helping the Commodores to an 8-2 start and a spot in the Associated Press top 25 each of the last eight weeks. Pavia has thrown for 200-plus yards on five occasions this fall, including recording more than 350 yards each of the last two weeks, and has connected on multiple touchdown passes in six contests.
The Heisman Trophy candidate leads the SEC completing 70.0 percent of his attempts, with a 166.8 pass efficiency rating and 170 points responsible for as well as in touchdown passes—ranking among the top 10 in the country in the latter three categories—while standing second with an average of 8.94 yards per attempts and third with 305.3 yards of total offense per game. Not only is he also third in the conference in passing yards, he is one of only two quarterbacks in the conference among the top 10 in rushing yards.
Pavia’s weekly honor came after he finished with a career-high 489 yards of total offense and accounted for four touchdowns in Vandy’s 45-38 overtime defeat of Auburn on Saturday. In the contest, he became the first individual in the program’s record book to post over 300 passing yards and 100 rushing yards in a game with 377 and 112, respectively.
In addition to being chosen the Walter Camp National FBS Offensive Player of the Week for the second time this season—he was also recognized after the Dores beat Utah State on Sept. 27—the quarterback was announced as the Associated Press National Player of the Week, named to the Davey O’Brien Award’s Great 8 and a Manning Award Star of the Week, and was chosen the Senior Bowl Offensive Player of the Week on Monday.
Pavia and No. 13/14 Vanderbilt are slated to play host to Kentucky in the program’s regular-season home finale on Nov. 22. Kickoff at FirstBank Stadium is set for 2:30 p.m.
