Mark Pope and the Kentucky Wildcats basketball team rode a five game winning streak into Nashville on Tuesday. However, the would leave the state of Tennessee battered, the victims of a beatdown at the hands of the Vanderbilt Commodores.
The game was never in doubt. The Wildcats began the game shooting less than 10% from the field, and Vanderbilt pulled ahead early, never to look back. It was reminiscent of the Gonzaga game, in that the Commodores exposed every Kentucky weakness, exploiting them to dominate on both ends of the floor.
The season isn’t quite lost year. Kentucky can still get a few wins against good teams and get into the NCAA Tournament. Once there, anything can happen, but it’s an uphill battle. Mark Pope’s squad has too many weaknesses, and Vanderbilt just showed the world every one of them.
