Vanderbilt tight end Eli Stowers was selected 54th overall by the Philadelphia Eagles in the second round of the 2026 NFL Draft on Friday in Pittsburgh. He is the first Commodore taken in this year’s draft.
Stowers arrived to Vanderbilt in 2024 after transferring from New Mexico State alongside offensive coordinator Tim Beck and signal-caller Diego Pavia. Originally a four-star quarterback recruit, he signed with Texas A&M but made only five appearances for the Aggies. He made the switch to tight end upon transferring to New Mexico State.
Stowers wasted little time establishing himself as one of the most dangerous weapons in the SEC with the Commodores. In his first season with Vanderbilt, he caught 49 passes for 628 yards and five touchdowns. His campaign earned him First Team All-SEC honors. In his second and final season in Nashville, he led all tight ends in the nation, totaling 62 receptions for 769 yards en route to winning the John Mackey award — the honor given annually to the most outstanding tight end in college football. Standout performances included a 12-catch, 122-yard outing against Auburn and 7 receptions for 146 yards and two touchdowns against Texas. He was also the recipient of the William V. Campbell trophy for academic and on-the-field excellence.
Stowers was one of the standouts at the recent NFL Combine, posting a positional record 44.5 inch vertical and a 11’3 broad jump. Stowers is now the first Commodore to be drafted in the first two rounds since Dayo Odeyingbo in 2021.
